Engineering experience at national scale

Selected Projects

With more than 20,000 assignments completed over four decades, most of them in Israel, a comprehensive portfolio lies well beyond the scope of a single website. The projects selected here offer a focused view of Klar Israel's technical breadth, analytical depth and ability to resolve unusual geotechnical challenges.

A substantial share of our current and forward workload is devoted to major national infrastructure, including mass transit systems, high-speed railways, tunnels, water facilities and complex industrial developments.

Mass transit

M1 Metro Line

M1 is one of the principal corridors of the planned Tel Aviv metropolitan metro system. As part of a broader multidisciplinary design team, Klar Israel provides NTA with geotechnical consulting and design services for the line.

Our scope includes planning and specifying the geotechnical investigation program, including borehole locations and depths, field testing and laboratory testing. The results are interpreted in depth to derive soil parameters and calibrate advanced constitutive models for use by the design teams. Geotechnical profiles are developed along the tunnel alignment and through the underground station areas.

Klar Israel also performs engineering calculations at multiple levels of complexity, from focused checks to advanced analyses of soil-tunnel-station interaction. These studies support movement predictions, assessment of effects on adjacent structures and independent verification of critical design assumptions.

High-speed rail

Coastal Railway - High-Speed Rail Project

Klar Israel provides geotechnical consulting services to Israel Railways for the Coastal Railway high-speed project. The project combines high operating speeds with variable ground conditions, existing transport infrastructure and sensitive interfaces with nearby structures.

Alongside its work on the sections under its direct responsibility, Klar Israel has on several occasions been asked to join and support other design teams on sections outside its original scope, specifically to address unusually complex issues requiring specialist expertise. In this context, the firm assessed the critical train speed in relation to wave propagation through the integrated track-substructure-ground system. This problem calls for rigorous dynamic response analysis and a distinctive combination of geotechnical insight and advanced computational capability.

Railways and soft ground

Karmiel - Kiryat Shmona Railway

The planned railway will extend Israel's national rail network from Karmiel toward the Upper Galilee and Kiryat Shmona, with new passenger stations along the alignment. Klar Israel supports the project on major geotechnical aspects.

Sections crossing the Hula Valley present substantial challenges. The local profile includes soft organic soils that may undergo large, long-term settlements under railway embankment and train loading. Design therefore requires careful assessment of total and differential settlement, its rate of development, embankment stability and transitions between sections with markedly different behavior.

These conditions call for creative engineering and disciplined comparison of alternatives. Depending on the local profile, solutions may include soil treatment or replacement, ground improvement, staged loading, deep foundations, bridging solutions and dedicated monitoring programs.

Water, industry and tunneling

Western Galilee Desalination Plant - IDE Technologies

The Western Galilee seawater desalination plant, developed by IDE Technologies, is intended to reinforce water supply to northern Israel. Klar Israel addressed the foundation engineering of the plant's principal components, matching the foundation solutions to the ground profile, structural loading and operational demands of a complex industrial facility.

Our work also covers demanding tunneling aspects associated with the seawater intake and brine discharge pipelines. Because the pipelines pass beneath active railway tracks, the assessment considers the interaction between the ground, tunnel construction, pipelines and railway infrastructure, with particular attention to movement prediction and control.

Road infrastructure and utility tunneling

Tzir Hanofesh and Utility Tunnel

Tzir Hanofesh is a metropolitan transport and infrastructure corridor led by Ayalon Highways. The planned route extends approximately 5.8 km between Highways 4 and 20 and combines an urban road, public transport lane, bridges, retaining walls, cycle routes and landscape development.

At the heart of the project is a multi-system utility tunnel more than four kilometers long. Klar Israel serves as geotechnical and foundation consultant for both the surface development and the tunnel. The scope includes earthworks, excavation support, retaining structures, bridge and roadway foundations, tunnel design, maintenance compounds and interfaces between the various systems.

The project also required complex dynamic analyses of surface-wave propagation generated during earthquakes. These calculations are used to assess dynamic soil-structure interaction and the seismic demands that develop in the tunnel.

Semiconductor manufacturing and dynamics

Intel Kiryat Gat Campus

Intel's Kiryat Gat campus is an advanced semiconductor manufacturing complex with exceptionally demanding performance criteria. Klar Israel provided foundation consulting for a range of structures across the site, addressing structural loads, ground conditions and the stringent operational requirements of chip fabrication facilities.

Our work also covered seismic engineering, including definition of ground accelerations and earthquake design inputs. In parallel, complex assessments addressed micro-vibrations and extremely small movements that may affect sensitive manufacturing equipment. The studies considered wave propagation through the ground and foundations, vibration transmission between foundation elements and measures required to maintain a stable, precision-controlled production environment.
